Choosing a Password Manager for iOS

We have already discussed how to create secure passwords and secure logins, how to safely enter passwords, and how to store them. You probably took our advice and chose a password manager for storage.

For desktop versions, we settled on KeePassXC. In the App Store, there are several applications that position themselves as KeePass for iOS, and I chose the MiniKeePass application.

There are several reasons for this choice, the main one being that the source code of MiniKeePass is available on GitHub; additionally, the application works reliably and is user-friendly.

Downloading/Creating a Password Database

I do not recommend using the same password file on computers and mobile devices, as most passwords from the common database are not needed on mobile devices. There is no point in exposing them to unnecessary risk, so the best solution would be to create a separate password database for mobile devices.

If you already have a password file and want to upload it to MiniKeePass, you will need to transfer it, for example, via Dropbox, any other cloud application, or send it by email. Overall, this process from A to Z is described in the help section, and I see no particular reason to repeat it. This is precisely the case where the help section is straightforward, clear, and to the point.

If you do not have a password file, you need to create one. Let me remind you that a password file (or password database) is a securely encrypted file where the data for accessing websites and applications will be stored. You can decrypt it only by entering the correct password in the MiniKeePass application or in compatible solutions.

To create a password file, open the application and press the “+” button at the bottom right. Come up with a name for the password database, a strong password, and select version 2.x. The password file is created!
