In this chapter, I will show you how to check if someone is reading your messages in messengers, email, or social networks. We used this method in a popular social network in Russia by creating a provocative personal message that moderators were supposed to read. They read it, and we saw that our messages were being read. Perhaps you want to check if your spouse, a hacker, or your boss is reading your messages – this method will work perfectly for you.

The essence of the proposed method is to create a trap link that will be added to the message. The trap will be created using the one-time note service Privnote.

We have previously written about the one-time note service Privnote earlier. It is a very useful service, and while we previously used it to break the integrity of information in messages, now it will serve us in creating a trap for those who like to read other people's correspondence.

The key feature of Privnote is that after reading, the note is deleted and can no longer be read – this functionality is known to many, but not everyone knows that Privnote has the option to receive a notification about the reading of the note via email.

First, you need to create a Privnote. Be sure to select the option "Do not ask for confirmation before showing and destroying the note (as in Privnote Classic)" when creating the note; we do not need any confirmations.

Make sure to specify "Email to receive notification of the note's destruction." This is necessary to receive an alert as soon as the note is read. After creating the note, you will receive a link like https://privnote.com/a7NEmQCl#DcieTk7Sz.

We will not send the link to Privnote as is; we will modify it, for example, through the short link service Bitly. The link will look something like this: https://bit.ly/2JFYEGV.
