Otherwise, you may face serious problems. In 2015, ESET published an investigation dedicated to the distribution of TrueCrypt with the Win32/Potao Trojan in the Russian-speaking segment of the internet. The malware (hereinafter referred to as software) was spread through the website www.truecryptrussia.ru, which was likely created specifically for distributing the infected version of the program. At the time of writing this article, the Truecryptrussia site was ranked 3rd in Yandex for the query "TrueCrypt". And, of course, Truecryptrussia is just one of many sites distributing malware.
According to experts from ESET, the Potao malware is designed for cyber espionage and extracting various confidential information from the victim, subsequently sending it to the attackers.
