Advice

All removable storage devices: USB flash drives/SD cards/external hard drives, etc. must be encrypted.

You should not have any removable storage devices that are not encrypted. If you still have such devices, encrypt them immediately after reading this chapter. And here’s what’s also important: the encryption pre-installed by the manufacturer does not count.

I often hear users ask: "What if the manufacturer of my device already offers built-in encryption, do I need to encrypt it a second time?" My answer is always the same - yes, you do. Firstly, manufacturers do not always use reliable data encryption algorithms, and secondly, in many countries, to sell devices with pre-installed encryption, it is necessary to provide decryption keys to intelligence agencies so that they can access the data if necessary.
